Mystery store checks are an absolutely valuable tool to use. However, from the perspective of wanting to have good insights into how the execution of a loyalty program is throughout the campaign, the ‘traditional’ mystery visit didn't meet my demands. Why? First, these campaigns last 18 to 20 weeks, so we could not have insights for the shopfloor every week. Secondly, the data gathered would be made available on a case-to-case (local)  basis and I couldn't learn from other globally executed campaigns. And last, but certainly not least, these mystery visits weren't cheap.

For those reasons, I developed and implemented a new tool, called StorePal. Pal stands for Program Activation Live replacing  'mystery shoppers' with on-the-spot digital intelligence and having a substantial increase in program participation.

Gamification gives way to participation

While monitoring the in-store execution, performance, product availability, and POS placement, StorePal also includes staff knowledge quizzes that test the staff's knowledge of the campaign. 

Each store gets a score from 1 to 100 for every quiz that staff take part in, and get a time bonus if they complete the task quickly. The scores are then added to the leaderboard in the app, which turns a program into the ultimate competition for the staff!
